Thursday 15 September
Social media, sport and the Olympics
Lewis Wiltshire, BBC Sport - Join the conversation with Lewis @LewisWiltshire
Social media now plays an increasingly important role across the world of sport, and will be centre stage in 2012 as athletes, fans, sponsors and global audiences engage online in the first truly social Olympic Games. So what does this mean for the BBC? Lewis Wiltshire, social media head for BBC sport & London 2012, will take you through how the BBC uses social media through its reporting, coverage and commentary, from Formula 1, to cricket, football and tennis. Lewis will outline how the BBC engages with audiences; invites and includes user contributions in BBC coverage; and what the BBC is planning for London 2012.

Thursday 22 September
Top ten skills a PR professional needs to survive in today's comms environment

Gemma Griffiths, The Crowd & I Join the conversation with Gemma
@GemGriff
If you entered the public relations industry seven years ago, you were required to have good communication skills (verbal and written), be organised and an understanding of print media in the UK. Fast-forward to 2011 and the requirements are somewhat different.
Knowledge of SEO? Able to edit and critique video footage? Understanding of Twitter, LinkedIN, Ning and Facebook as well as all online and offline media? These are just some of the skills needed in 2011. Pop along to this social summer session to hear the top ten requirements of a PR professional in today's communications environment.

Thursday 29 September
PR's seat at the social media table

Mark Pinsent, Shine Communications - Join the conversation with Mark @MarkPinsent
For a long while, PR people have expressed the view that the rise in social media is the opportunity that PR has been looking for to take the lead in communications; that the conversational, ongoing nature of engagement plays directly to PR's strengths. And yet we still see advertising and digital agencies getting greater recognition for their social media efforts. So what is the territory to which PR can lay a claim?

The doors open for all CIPR HQ sessions at 17:00, the presentation will begin at 17:20 and the evening will finish at 19:30.

Events will be held at:
